The U.S. Coast Guard station in Portsmouth will host an active-shooter response exercise from about 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.
Members of the Portsmouth Police Department have been invited to participate in the exercise, which will involve simulated active shooters, take-downs, building sweeps and a medical casualty response.
“The goal of this exercise is to jointly test and improve effective readiness of the police and fire departments when responding to high threat situations on base,” said Sergeant S. Blystone of the Portsmouth Police Department Training Unit and SWAT Team.
Officials warned that folks in the area should not be surprised or alarmed if they see a large law enforcement presence in the area during those hours.
