A Suffolk woman is charged with assault on a police officer after a Sunday incident.

About 2:45 a.m., an officer was approached by a male concerning a female who was reportedly intoxicated, city spokesman Tim Kelley said. Another officer arrived, and Danielle Nicole Evans, 28, was placed under arrest for public intoxication.

“While being handcuffed, the suspect reportedly grabbed the hand of the officer and kicked him in the leg,” Kelley said.

The suspect was brought to the magistrate’s office, and warrants were obtained for public intoxication and assault and battery of a police officer or firefighter. She also was found to have seven outstanding warrants for revocation of suspended sentence, Kelley said.
