Hubert Earl Tew

Hubert Earl Tew, 66, passed away Dec. 26, 2015, one week after having suffered a massive stroke. He was born in Whaleyville to Sallie (Parker) Baker Tew and Hubert Tew. Living in Hampton Roads all of his life, he medically retired from his work as an auto body technician, having learned that craft from his brothers at Old Point Body Shop in Hampton and later working at various local shops. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Leon Tew; brother, Bobby Eugene Tew; half-brothers, Wilbert Earl, Bobby Ray and J.D. Baker.

Hubert is survived by his twin brother, Gerald Tew; daughters, Cindy and Jennifer; sister, Brenda Robertson; half-sister, Jean Macioci, all of Suffolk; sisters-in-law, Rosalee Baker, of Hampton, and Betty Baker, of Smithfield; close friend, Riddick Parker, of Suffolk; and many nieces and nephews that he loved, but especially Sharon Wroten and her family, who took him boating and fishing and go-carting, and Shelby Derrick and her family. To them, “Uncle Earl” or “Beetle” was never to be left out of any function. He also enjoyed working on model cars, especially NASCAR ones, and sitting in the swing visiting with neighbors.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at 2 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 400 Bank St., Suffolk, VA 23434 with Capt. Shauntrice Anthony and Lt. Johnny Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army. Family and friends are also welcome to visit on Tuesday evening at Jean’s home in Suffolk.
