Man injured in hunting accident

A man was treated and released from Sentara Obici Hospital on Saturday after a hunting accident resulted in “minor gunshot injuries,” according to Suffolk officials.

Police were notified at 9:40 a.m. Saturday of a hunting accident in the 2600 block of Jackson Road, where an adult male was shot by another hunter who was attempting to hit a deer, Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink stated in a press release.

The victim was transported to Obici by a family member. He was treated and released.

According to Klink, police do not expect to press charges in the shooting, as they believe it to have been accidental. However the incident remains under investigation by the Suffolk Police Department and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
