UPDATE: The road has reopened, VDOT reports.

Earlier: Bridge Road is closed in both the northbound and southbound directions due to a crash at the Isle of Wight County and Suffolk line on the Sidney B. Hazelwood Sr. Bridge, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Motorists should expect a lengthy closure due to emergency road work on the jersey wall because of the crash. A detour is in place.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.

The detour route is as follows:

From Isle of Wight: Traffic is being rerouted back down Route 17 to Brewers Neck Road to Route 10 West to Kings Highway to Crittenden Road back onto Route 17.

From Suffolk: Traffic is being rerouted from Route 17 back down Crittenden Road to Route 10 East to Kings Highway to Route 17 to Brewers Neck Road.
