James Gregory Vincent

James Gregory “Bossman” Vincent, 62, of 423 Briggs St., Suffolk, transitioned Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, at his residence. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of the late James Vincent and Lois E. Vincent. He was preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Vincent.

He was a graduate of John Yeates High School, class of 1978, where he received the “Basketball Standout Defensive Player of the Year Award.” He was currently employed with Kraft Heinz, formerly Planters, as a forklift operator at the tree nut plant for 42 years. Bossman was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the Senior Usher Board and the Transportation Ministry. He was member of Prince Hall Masons Star Sharon No. 231, Local 26, Boosters Club and Virginia High School Basketball League Referee Association.

Besides his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Tameka Moore, of Suffolk; two sons, Jalen Vincent, of Franklin, and Tramayne Giles, of San Diego; two sisters, Cassandra Reid, of Raleigh, and Lois Mayfield, of Chesapeake; three brothers, Rodney Vincent, of Philadelphia, Herbert “Rabbit” Vincent, of Suffolk, and Orlando “Mane” Vincent, of Newport News; two grandchildren, Zahria Moore and Vondre Moore; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at Oak Grove Baptist 2536 E. Washington St., Suffolk. Dr. Anthony Copeland will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk. Condolences to the Vincent family may be extended to www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
