The Satin Hearts Elite Twirlers found success in a recent competition of the National Baton Twirling Association.

The team competed in the Snow Festival Contest on Jan. 16, sponsored by The Royalettes Baton Corps of Richmond. The team members competed in novice, basic and military strut divisions and for the first time competed in novice solo divisions based on their age groups.

The team earned seven first place awards, two second place awards, four third place awards and two fifth place awards, according to coach Chanel Bryant.

Bryant said she started the team with the goal of creating a way for twirlers in high step marching band programs the opportunity to strengthen their skills and compete on a higher level.

“As the coach of the Satin Hearts, I am very proud of the girls,” Bryant wrote. “It has been a transition for them as well as myself and Assistant Coach Tenisha Weston learning the National Baton Twirling Association’s world of twirling, but it has been a great experience thus far as we continue to learn. These experiences have allowed the members to grow in many ways, and I’m very excited about the future of the team as we will grow in number as well.”

The Satin Hearts Elite Twirlers are under the umbrella of For the Love of Band LLC, which involves training workshops and academies in baton, dance, flag and drum major leadership as well as coordination of indoor and field show competitions.

The organization will be conducting six-week baton and dance academies for ages 6 to 14 beginning Feb. 3 at Mack Benn Jr. Recreation Center. Those interested in registration can email 4theloveofband@gmail.com.
