A former Suffolk police officer has been indicted by the grand jury on one charge stemming from an August incident.

Nicholas Mark Thompson was indicted on a charge of unlawful wounding in the Aug. 20 incident. He already has been found guilty on two other charges in a lower court and is serving a two-year sentence.

Thompson was charged with abduction, strangulation, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and domestic assault. He was found guilty of the domestic assault in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, said Amanda Howie, a spokeswoman for the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Jill Harris of the Norfolk office is special prosecutor on the case.

The abduction and use of a firearm charges were not prosecuted in the lower court, Howie said. Monday’s indictment is the strangulation charge, which has been amended to unlawful wounding.

Thompson also was found guilty in the lower court on an assault charge stemming from an Aug. 15 incident. He is serving one year for each of the charges on which he has been convicted so far.

Thompson’s employment with the Suffolk Police Department was terminated Aug. 21.

In December 2014, Thompson was charged with brandishing a firearm and assault and battery of a household member after his then-wife alleged he had brandished his service weapon, pointed it at her temple and threatened to shoot during an altercation on Sept. 27, she wrote in a sworn statement filed with Suffolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

He again assaulted her on Nov. 9, she said in the statement.

The 2014 case against Thompson was dropped at his then-wife’s request.
