Nansemond River High School’s Competition Theatre Team won first place in the Virginia High School League 5A South PenSouth Conference 10 Theatre Festival on Saturday.
Directed by Dr. Joleen Neighbours, Nansemond River’s play, “Wit,” garnered the school the conference championship for the third year in a row.
Along with winning the Conference Festival, four Nansemond River actors were named All-Conference. Rodney McKeithan, a senior, and Jaiyla Lewis and Emily McCown, both juniors, received All-Conference. Savannah Miller, a junior, received the top honor of the day as All-Conference Best Actor. The theater team from Nansemond River High School will be headed, as conference champions, to the regional finals on Feb. 20 at Mills Godwin High School in Richmond.
“With a large, active performing arts program, Nansemond River High School is well-known in the state for its musicals, drama and visual arts program, which has become a highlight of the high school experience for many Suffolk students,” Neighbours wrote in a press release. “Nansemond River High School’s support and love for the arts begins with its administrators led by Principal Thomas McLemore.”
