Howard M. Foster

Howard M. Foster, 93, affectionately known as “Pop,” of 1753 Mt. Lebanon Drive, Suffolk, departed this earth on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. He was the son of the late Howard Sr. and Mittie Crocker Foster. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Foster, and son, Howard Tyrone Foster.

He attended Hobson Grade School. He worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, where he retired in the year 1981 after 33 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army, where he received an honorable discharge. He was a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church, where he served as the grounds keeper for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memory eight daughters and five sons, Janet Phillips (Lawrence), of Jamaica, N.Y., Carole Lorraine Foster, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Barbara Cole, of New York, Nancy Thrower (John), of Suffolk, Patricia Mayo (Jackie), of Chesapeake, Iris Wilson (Douglas), of Portsmouth, Doris Jordan (Ronnie), Ann Boone (Hollis), both of Suffolk, Willie Holland (Veronica), of Alabama, Anthony Foster (Relanda), Nathan Foster (Diane), Timothy Holland and Eduardo Holland (Rhonda), all of Suffolk; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 8300 Crittenden Road, Suffolk. Interment will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery.
