NR takes third in PenSouth pool

The Nansemond River High School boys’ and girls’ swimming teams placed third in the PenSouth Conference Championships, which ran from Feb. 4 to 5 in Newport News.
The Warriors qualified 45 entries to swim in the Region 5A South Championships, 40 personal best times, 13 top-three finishers, seven school records and five state-qualifying times.
Following are the new school record-holders:
Boys
- 100-yard butterfly – Allen Zachary, 52.81
- 100-yard freestyle – Logan Eubanks, 49.20
- 500-yard freestyle – Allen Zachary, 4:49.30
- 400-yard freestyle relay – Logan Eubanks, Hunter Ward, Clay Bennett, Allen Zachary, 3:26.24
Girls
- 200-yard medley relay – Kaitlyn Higgins, Tayler Pearl, Kendall Webster, Claire Janek, 2:06.00
- 50-yard freestyle – Claire Janek, 26.09
- 400-yard freestyle relay – Claire Janek, Lisa Terry, Hailey Russell, Kaitlyn Higgins, 4:08.35
Following are the Warriors’ current state qualifiers and their qualified events:
- Logan Eubanks – 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle (relay lead-off), 100-yard backstroke
- Allen Zachary – 200-yard freestyle (swam at Kecoughtan Invitational), 100-yard butterfly, 500-yard freestyle
The regional championships begin on Thursday at the Midtown Aquatics Center in Newport News.
