Following are this week’s nominees for the Duke Automotive-Suffolk News-Herald Player of the Week:

  •  Ziquan Edwards, junior for Lakeland High School wrestling: He was one of nine Cavaliers to advance to regionals and the lone member of his team to win a conference title during the Conference 27 championships on Feb. 6. He defeated York High School junior Mitchell Hamilton by a 12-6 decision to win the 138-pound weight class.
  • Cydney Nichols, junior for King’s Fork High School basketball: She scored 10 of her game-high 21 points on Thursday to help lift the Lady Bulldogs over Lake Taylor High School 52-47. The playoff game helped determine who would play Woodrow Wilson High School on Saturday for the right to hold the No. 1 seed in the conference and a berth in the regional tournament. She also had 10 steals.
  • Torrence Williams, senior for Nansemond River High School basketball: He was clutch while producing a career game on Thursday to help the Warriors end their regular season with a 60-59 Senior Night home win over conference foe Warwick High School. He scored 15 of his career-high 21 points in the second half, including hitting the go-ahead shot in the lane with 12 seconds remaining.
