Suffolk police are investigating an accidental shooting that left a 42-year-old man with an injured hand.

The shooting happened in the 6700 block of Everets Road about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The victim, Terry Darnell Holland, 42, was transported by a family member to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.

Investigators found that the victim accidentally shot himself in the hand while removing the magazine from the handgun, Klink said. His injury is not considered life-threatening.

The investigation remains ongoing.
