Police investigate the city’s first homicide of 2016 Tuesday on Old Dill Road.

A man found dead Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, in the 800 block of Old Dill Road, was a homicide victim, police said.

Authorities have identified him as Wayne Anthony Watford, 42, of the 1600 block of Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink stated. Police will not provide any information about how he died until the medical examiner’s office releases its findings, she added.

Police were called to the cemetery next to Cameron Chemicals Inc. around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday following reports that a man’s body had been found there, according to a press release from Klink’s office.

Late Tuesday afternoon, several officers and investigators remained at 824 Old Dill Road, a small, dilapidated house near the cemetery. Officers declined to comment, referring all questions to Klink.

Several people who live in the 1600 block of Nansemond Parkway said they didn’t know Watford.

Police are seeking input from the community, Klink said.
