Henry L.J. Peebles

Mr. Henry L.J. Peebles, 83, founder and owner of Peebles Funeral Home in Suffolk, peacefully went into eternal rest on March 2, 2016. A native of Nansemond County, he was born to the late Katie Peebles and John Boykins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Peebles. He was a faithful member of Tabernacle Christian Church until his health declined. Henry was past president of Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, Virginia Mortician Association, Norfolk Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association. He was also a licensed mortician and embalmer in the state of North Carolina. Henry was a member of Epsilon Nu Delta Fraternity and served in the United States Army.

Cherishing in Henry’s loving memory are two children, Rhonda Peebles Holland (Randolph) and Rodney Peebles; and two grandchildren, Randolph and Rachel Holland.

A wake service will be held on Monday March 7, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at East End Baptist Church, 523 E. Washington St., Suffolk. A graveside service will take place at noon Tuesday March 8, 2016, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 6100 Holy Neck Road, Holland.

Peebles Funeral Home is in charge of all services.
