Deputy city manager named

City Manager Patrick Roberts announced Thursday the appointment of Durrell “Scott” Mills as deputy city manager effective March 17. Mills has been the interim deputy city manager since June 1.

Mills, 53, has been employed by the city of Suffolk since 1987, when he was first employed by the Department of Planning, and has held various positions within that department including environmental planner, principal planner, assistant director and director. He has also served on two previous occasions as interim deputy city manager.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in urban and regional planning from East Carolina University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

“Scott has an extensive history with the City of Suffolk, and his vast knowledge and experience make him uniquely qualified to hold this position,” Roberts stated in a press release from the city.

“I look forward to serving in this capacity,” Mills stated in the release.

Mills and his wife, Angela, have two sons, Austin, age 20, and Dixon, age 16.
