Road reopens after overturned tractor-trailer

UPDATED 4 p.m.: The road has reopened.

Earlier: An overturned tractor-trailer has closed a portion of Holland Road in the 3900 block.

The accident happened at 11:45 a.m. The trailer, which was hauling wood pellets, overturned, and the adult male driver had to be extricated from the cab by Suffolk Fire and Rescue, according to a city press release.

He was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

The entire road was closed at the scene of the crash while the driver was extricated. Currently, one lane eastbound and westbound are open while debris is removed. Additional lane closures could take place throughout the afternoon while the scene is cleared up.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
