James Dennis Morrison

James Dennis “Jim” Morrison, 77, husband of Betty Lee Morrison and a resident of Suffolk, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016. Born on Dec. 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Fritz and Albina Morrison. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired captain from Suffolk Fire Department with 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Chesapeake. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing and following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Other than his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Catherine Sapp and her husband, Roger, of Chesapeake; Susan Reason, of Suffolk; a granddaughter, Olivia Marie Sapp; two sisters-in-law, Jane Ellis, of Windsor; Mary Virginia Vick, of Portsmouth; brother-in-law, Harold Jan Ellis, of Suffolk; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by three sisters, Catherine Steele, Dorothy Derosier, Joan Valvo; four brothers, George Steele, Edward Steele, Richard Morrison, Robert Morrison; brother-in-law, William Ellis; George Vick; sisters-in-law, Lena Ann Crutchlow Ellis, Katherine Everlena Ellis.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321 with a reception to follow after the church service. Burial with fireman honors and military honors will be at 2 p.m. at Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk.
