On Sunday, March 13, 2016, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and faithful friend, Linwood Smallwood, peacefully passed away at Sentara Obici Hospital. He had his loving and supportive family by his side.

He was the son of the late Alfonza and Arie C. Smallwood. Mr. Smallwood is survived by his loving wife, Lottie; his children, devoted daughter, Kay S. Smallwood-Braddell, and devout son, Javoun T. Smallwood; one sister, Ruby S. Watkins; stepson, Ray T. Fenwick, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Summer Griffin, a senior at VCU in Richmond, and Laurence Braddell Jr.; sister-in-law; Lillian S. Maddrey and Laura Goodman (Raymond).

He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School, Class of ’56. He then worked at Preachers Tire, served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and spent the rest of his career at Lipton Tea (Unilever), where he retired. He was honored by the NAACP for black entrepreneurship and was a licensed general contractor.

A celebration of life will be held at New Mount Joy Food For Living Ministries on Friday, March 18, 2016, at noon. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Condolences to the Smallwood family may be extended to www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
