A benefit pig-pickin’ for the family of a local man who recently died of cancer is set for this Sunday.
Willie Webster Strickland Jr. died on March 3. Donna Perry, owner of Derl’z Restaurant, where the event will be held, said she didn’t know him well but knew others who knew him.
“He was very well known and very well liked,” she said. “We have a lot of support.”
The event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. It was set to include a car wash and cornhole tournament, but the weather doesn’t look promising for those facets of the event, Perry said.
Even so, folks will still be able to enjoy live entertainment, a billiards tournament, a Chinese auction and live auction, and food sales.
Barbecue, baked beans and cole slaw are available for $10 per plate, Perry said. Chicken is available as a substitute for those who don’t like pork.
“Everything was donated,” Perry said. “One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the family.”
Mason’s Grill and Smokehouse is sponsoring the event along with Derl’z.
The event is located at 425 E. Pinner St. Call 809-1966 for more information.
