Grand jury indicts 69

The target of an alleged attempted murder-for-hire last year is now the suspect in a murder investigation.

The grand jury on Monday indicted Karlton Lamond Boone, 18, on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a violent felon and shoot, stab, cut or wound. The charges stem from the death of 42-year-old Wayne Anthony Watford, whose body was found March 1 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

As it turns out, Boone was one of two intended targets of an alleged attempted murder-for-hire for which someone was also indicted Monday.

David Kendal Wethington was indicted on two counts each of solicitation to commit murder and attempted capital murder. According to court documents, the incidents related to the charges happened between Nov. 15, 2015, and Jan. 31, 2016.

Prosecutor Matthew Glassman, who is handling both cases, said they are not related other than that the target in one case is the defendant in another.

Other notable grand jury indictments include DeAndre Marquis Ricks, 20, who was indicted last month on attempted malicious wounding and other charges.

He now faces three charges of attempted murder in connection with the same incident. According to court documents, he is accused of firing at his ex-girlfriend and two other people as they sat in a car in the parking lot of the Health and Human Services Building on the afternoon of Oct. 10, a Saturday.

Also indicted Monday are a Suffolk couple police say were manufacturing methamphetamine at their home on South Broad Street, with two children present.

Michael Curtis Hardison Jr., 44, and Amanda Lynn Hardison, 33, were arrested Sept. 29 after a police pursuit that began with calls about a suspected drunken driver, according to a city press release from September.

Also indicted Monday was Leon Hayes, who is one of three defendants in the September 2014 murder of downtown furniture merchant Donald Carter.

Hayes, initially deemed incompetent to stand trial, has been restored to competency, according to court documents. He now faces an additional charge of murder by mob.

The two other defendants in Carter’s murder, Katron Shawndell Walker and Naomi Nichelle Lambert, have both been found guilty.

In all, the grand jury indicted 69 defendants on 188 charges. The full grand jury report is below.
