Now that spring has sprung, the Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community will host a garden forum this Saturday to get people in gear for gardening.

Three sessions will focus on different aspects of “farm-to-table” gardening, from planting to eating. Children’s activities are planned if the weather cooperates.

“Basically, it’s geared toward getting people excited and ready to get their gardens going,” said Regina Brayboy, executive director of the partnership. “There’s a network of folks who are interested and want to network with one another.”

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Johnson’s Gardens, 3201 Holland Road.

At 9 a.m., David Carter, a horticulturist from Norfolk Botanical Gardens, will discuss spring gardening tips and solutions and answer questions.

At 10 a.m. Dedra Blount, chef and owner of “Now You’re Cooking,” will present spring garden party menu planning.

“We’ve been finding the cooking demo is very popular,” Brayboy said. “We want to demystify the process. There are a lot of people who don’t know what to do with some fresh vegetables people don’t normally encounter in their raw state.”

At 11 a.m., Johnson’s Gardens owner Tim Johnson will conduct an introduction to backyard poultry and home floral arranging.

“We try to present it as family-oriented, because gardening and the whole process of farm-to-table is a family-oriented event,” Brayboy said.
