It’s time to jam — and help buy the fireworks that will light up the Crittenden sky on Independence Day.

The C.E.&H. Ruritan Club is holding its 16th annual Beer, Bands & Barbecue from 3 to 7 p.m. May 21 at 8881 Eclipse Drive. The club uses proceeds from the event to help fund its annual fireworks display, said C.E.&H. Ruritan President Jason Gould.

“It’s going to be a throwback jam this year,” Gould said. “We’re going to have a lot more music this year.”

Longtime local band, Island Boy, is the lead entertainment.

Several members of the former band Aces Up will reunite for a performance. Several Island Boy band members were founding members of Aces Up.

Gould is expecting 600 to 800 people to attend, although it varies dramatically with the weather.

“It’s really dependent on the weather,” Gould said. “It can become a feeding frenzy for tickets if the 10-day forecast is calling for good weather.”

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Children 12 and under are free.

The club will also be selling its T-shirts, which are almost always sellouts, Gould said.

Tickets can be purchased at Rio Grande Traders in Driver; The Market and O’doodleDoo’s Donuts in Crittenden; and Degraw’s Barber Shop in Bennett’s Creek.
