A Newport News man has been indicted on a bank robbery charge in Suffolk.

Demarco Antonio McMullen, 25, was indicted Wednesday on the charge in connection with a crime that happened on March 10, according to court records.

That day, police said in a press release at the time, a man in a surgical mask robbed the Xenith Bank in the 1000 block of North Main Street. The robbery was reported at 10:04 a.m. Witnesses saw the suspect flee in a dark sedan after demanding and receiving money.

A week later, McMullen was charged with a separate robbery at the Carrollton branch of Langley Federal Credit Union. Police say a man wearing a surgical mask approached a teller and passed a note that demanded money and implied he had a gun.

Police in Suffolk later spotted him on Bridge Road and initiated a pursuit, which ended in Chesapeake after a short foot chase.

McMullen was one of 38 defendants indicted on 136 charges.
