Harvey Basnight Harris Jr., 74, went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2016, after a hard fought battle with various health problems.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Dolores. He leaves behind daughter, Tracy Schmid; sons, Scott Harris, Ted Pollard Jr. and John Pollard, of Chesapeake. He was “Poppa” to 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rae Keel, of Richmond.

Harvey spent a good part of his life (almost 53 years) at Sydnor Hydro in Richmond, a job he really loved. God, family, church, friends, his job, gardening and fishing were his life.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennett’s Creek Chapel. Services will be Monday, May 2, at Nansemond River Baptist Church at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow in the fellowship hall. The family and anyone desiring to go to the interment will go to Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m.

A special thanks goes out to the wonderful doctors, nurses and all of the staff at Sentara Obici Hospital’s ICU, who were so helpful and tried so very hard to heal Harvey.
