Vehicle strikes pump station

Suffolk police responded to an accident Monday afternoon involving a vehicle that struck a Suffolk Public Utilities pump station.

The accident was reported at 12:43 p.m. after a Dodge Journey passenger vehicle struck Pump Station No. 55 located at the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Myrick Avenue, according to a city press release. An emergency by-pass pump was required at the site to maintain service to the residents served by the pump station.

The full extent of the damage to the building and equipment is unknown at this time. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and didn’t sustain any injuries.

Shenna Lavon Barnes, of Suffolk, was issued a summons for failure to maintain proper control.
