William “Mickey” Council, 80, of Nansemond Parkway, went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2016. He was born on May 24, 1935, to the late Albert Council and Evelyn Sykes. He was also predeceased by three grandchildren.

He attended Suffolk Public Schools and was retired from the city of Suffolk as a custodian. He is a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Ruth S. Council. He is also survived by four sons, James Council (Muriel), Larry Council, Harry Council, all of Suffolk, Lonnie Council (Marie), of Hampton; three daughters, Ruth E. Council, of Chesapeake, Betty Council and Cora Allen (Timothy), of Suffolk; one brother, Albert W. Council (Della), of Suffolk; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will take place at noon Monday, May 23, 2016, at Oak Grove Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Anthony Copeland. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
