November ballot set

The ballots are now set for local elections in November following Tuesday evening’s filing deadline.
Five people will contest the mayor’s seat, including incumbent Linda T. Johnson. Her opponents are Brian Bass, Kerry Holmes, Charles Scott Sr. and Geral Staten.
Other City Council members will also see opposition this year. In the Sleepy Hole Borough, incumbent Roger Fawcett faces a challenge from Raymond Batton III, who contested the open seat with Fawcett four years ago.
In the Nansemond Borough, incumbent Lue Ward Jr. will face a challenge from Ben Fitzgerald III.
In the Whaleyville Borough, incumbent Curtis Milteer has three challengers: LaTroy Brinkley, J. Harold Faulk and Vanessa Harris.
Three School Board incumbents will run unopposed: Judith Brooks-Buck in the Nansemond Borough, David Mitnick in the Sleepy Hole Borough and Phyllis Byrum in the Whaleyville Borough.
