Rachel Parker Spivey, of Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday, June 28. She was 94.

Born June 27, 1922, in Gates County, N.C., she was the youngest of Elisha and Lillie Mae Parker’s eight children. Rachel moved to Suffolk at an early age to live with her oldest sister and her family, and throughout her life, she considered Suffolk her home town. She was a 1939 graduate of Suffolk High School, where she met the love of her life, Victor Bunch Spivey. She and Vic were married in August 1943 and raised four children during their nearly 63 years of marriage. They were blessed with 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. They were founding members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, joining the new church in 1967 when the family moved to Colonial Heights. Rachel was preceded in death by Victor, who died in 2006, and all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children, Victor Steven Spivey, of Tequesta, Fla., and his wife, Peggy; Deborah Spivey Izo, of Colonial Heights; Kenneth Ray Spivey, of Chesterfield, and his wife, Debra; and Gregory Bunch Spivey, of Great Falls, and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Candice, Erica, Lillie, Kris, Jason, Daniel, Bryce, Whitney, Tom, Jackson and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Jake, Joshua, Sophie, Nathan, Zane and Dylan. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Dunlop House and Crater Community Hospice for their kind and attentive care over the past three years.

The family will receive friends at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Thursday, June 30, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suffolk.
