Edwards graduates

Jessica Edwards graduated cum laude with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree from Paul D. Camp Community College.

Kennedy graduates

Macon Christopher Kennedy, of Suffolk, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington and Lee University on May 26. Commencement ceremonies for 444 Washington and Lee seniors were held on the university’s historic Front Lawn.

Kennedy majored in English and politics.

Wade named to Honors List

Lashae Wade, of Suffolk, was named to the Spring 2016 Honors List at Mary Baldwin College.

Students named to the Honors List earned grade point averages of 3.75 to 4.0. To be eligible, a student must be a degree candidate and must have earned at least 12 semester hours for the grading period.

Taylor named to Dean’s List

Wesley Taylor was named to the dean’s list at Miami University.

Miami University students who achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for the semester are named to the Dean’s List.

Taylor, from Suffolk, is earning a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in architecture.

Kandil named to Dean’s List

Abdulrahim Kandil, a junior studying aeronautics within the College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology, was named to the Spring 2016 Dean’s List at Kent State University.

To qualify for this honor, undergraduate students must obtain a 3.4 grade point average or higher while maintaining 12 or more credit hours in a semester.

Kerr named to Honor Roll

Approximately 5,200 undergraduate students at the University of Kansas earned honor roll distinction for the spring 2016 semester.

Local students among them were David Gough, of Carrollton, in the School of Business, and Danielle Kerr, of Suffolk, in the School of Pharmacy.

The honor roll includes undergraduates who meet requirements, which vary among the university’s academic units. Some schools honor the top 10 percent of students enrolled, some establish a minimum grade-point average and others raise the minimum GPA for each year students are in school. Students must complete a minimum number of credit hours to be considered for the honor roll.

Carr named to President’s List

Catalina Velez Carr, of Suffolk, has been named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2016 semester.

Carr is majoring in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management.

To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a 4.0 grade-point average.

Chowan names President’s, Dean’s lists

Chowan University has announced the President’s List and Dean’s List honorees for Spring 2016.

President’s List honorees are full-time students who have accomplished a grade point average of 3.8 or better for the semester. This distinction will become part of their official record. The following students made the President’s List:

  • Calvin Bowe, a senior criminal justice major
  • Aaron Flanagan, a junior criminal justice major
  • Samara Hardiman, a senior graphic design major
  • Bethaney Tinto, a senior graphic communications major
  • Kevin Wilson, a junior criminal justice major

Dean’s List honorees have accomplished a grade point average between 3.25 and 3.79 for the semester. This distinction for full-time students will become part of their official record. The following students made the Dean’s List:

  • Nyland Bryant, a freshman sports management major
  • Blake Eure, a senior elementary education major
  • Demetria Futrell, a sophomore psychology major
  • Rebecca Gayheart, a sophomore psychology major
  • Lauren Rice, a senior psychology major
  • Chantel Roberts, a senior exercise science major
