This nation needs a sheepdog

To the editor:

Having served in the several branches of the military and retired from federal service, and as professing Christian, I will do my best not to use phrases that start with words such as “goat” or “cluster” in this letter.

Like most Americans, I have been waiting for the outcome of the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s privileged e-mail servers. FBI Director James Comey announced on Tuesday that “Our judgment is that no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.”

This is the first time in my 60 years as a proud American that I felt nausea and shame for my country.

As a kid, I confronted bullies in classrooms and on the playground and still do today. I was the sheepdog that would put a knot on their head and make them back off. Where is our country’s sheepdog?

We have seen that the president and the attorney general of our great land are not going to be sheepdogs, and now the second highest sheepdog has just turned his back on the rule of law, too.

God help us.

I was a cryptographic repairman in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and for the Department of the Navy as a civilian for many years. My position required a Top Secret clearance with Special Intelligence and other higher-access classifications.

If I had any hint of some transgression, such as a DUI or something similar, my clearance would have been revoked. I retired from the Navy with 30 years of service and now five years a contractor. For the last several years, it has been a security violation just to plug a thumb drive into a computer. The violation is grounds for being dismissed and having one’s security clearance revoked.

How in the world is Hillary going to maintain a security clearance after all of the violations FBI Directory Comey said committed? If it were me or GI Jane or John Doe, our government careers would be over.

Our courts use the Roman goddess of justice or the Greek goddess Themis as an icon representing moral force in our judicial system. She is blindfolded with a set of scales and a sword. An updated version should have her at least peaking under the blindfold with one eye while winking with the other eye.

Better yet, let’s use Moses with his staff, holding the 10 Commandments. Maybe that would help get us back in God’s good grace. I figure that, since the passage of legalized baby killing and now same-sex marriage, what little grace we had is now gone to hell.

According to the scriptures, God appoints rulers or kings over nations. Perhaps we get what we deserve.

This fall I will be voting hopefully for “Sheep Dog”!

GOD Help Us!
