The S. Delois Mayes Scholarship Foundation recently announced its scholarship winners for 2016.

The group awarded $8,500 in scholarships to class of 2016 graduates.

The winners were:

Phylicia Nixon, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Virginia Union University ($3,000)

Raven Askew, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Old Dominion University ($2,000)

Christopher Fegley, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend West Virginia University ($1,000)

Horatio Douglas Jr., a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend North Carolina A&T State University ($500)

Bryan Rice, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Virginia Tech ($500)

Kiera Rountree, a Lakeland High School graduate who will attend Hampton University ($500)

Jordan Barnes, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Norfolk State University ($500)

Leilani Lawhorn, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Tidewater Community College ($500)
