William Ruffin Hopson

William Ruffin Hopson, 78, of Airport Road, Suffolk, transitioned Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Lester Hopson and Mary Scott. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Davis.

He retired in 2008 after 33 years at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Capernaum Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Janett S. Hopson; three daughters, Brenda “Pat” Davis, of Glen Allen, Renee Gates (Eugene Jr.), of Spring Lake, N.C., and Kiesha Henry (Patrick), of Raleigh, N.C.; son, Christopher Hopson (Nikki), of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Barbara Johnson, of Suffolk, and Della Milteer, of Norfolk; brothers, Robert Hopson (Cora Marie), of Suffolk, and Edward Hopson, of Hampton; five grandchildren, Wynston, Avery, Bella, Cayla and Kameron; a niece who was like a daughter, Sonia Britt; three canine grands; other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Capernaum Seventh Day Adventist Church, 314 York St., Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. The wake will be held Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
