A Suffolk woman was arrested Thursday after a traffic stop when a police officer allegedly saw a toddler standing up in the backseat.

The traffic stop occurred about 11:36 p.m. in the 1200 block of North Main Street, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink. The vehicle was tailgating another vehicle, Klink stated in an email.

Tierra Shunay Thompson, 23, was arrested on a charge of abuse and neglect of children with reckless disregard. Child Protective Services was notified, and the child was released to the care of a family member, Klink stated.

The child was not injured.
