James Preston Saunders

James “Mouse” Preston Saunders, 86, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation.
James was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in Suffolk (Nansemond County), to the late John Howard Saunders and Goldie Watson-Saunders.
He was predeceased by one son, Donald Saunders; three brothers, John Calvert Saunders (Fletcher), Robert “Bunny” Saunders and Hanford “Sam” Saunders (Betty).
James enlisted in the U.S. Army and upon completion of duty earned the rank of corporal. He later retired from Planters Peanuts after 34 years of dedicated service.
James leaves to cherish his memory, devoted friend, Annie Wilson-Saunders; five children, Sandra, Michael, Ronald (Tonnette), and Aurelia “Annette”; one sister, Allene “Barbara” Black (Bobby); one brother, Howard “Dunkey” Saunders; eight grandchildren; 16.5 great-grandchildren; Chi-Chi the dog (Pet Heaven); and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Saunders’ visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at the funeral home. The family will receive guests at 2032 Hickorywood Court at all other times. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, at Mt. Ararat Christian Church, and he will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
