Joseph Edward Pope, 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016.

He was the son of the late John E. and Katie J. Pope and the husband of the late Betty C. Pope. He was predeceased by a son, Michael E. Pope.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Timothy Ministry and was a lineman for 39 years with Virginia Power Co.

Mr. Pope is survived by his daughter, Betty Jo Drake, and her husband Randy, of Suffolk; his son, Robert M. Pope, of Suffolk; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and special friends Lou Marshall and Bill and Bernice Creekmore and their daughters.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holly Lawn Cemetery, by Dean Warren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington Street, Suffolk, and at other times at Mr. Pope’s home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, OK 73101.
