One injured in Route 58 crash

A city of Portsmouth vehicle was involved in a crash on U.S. Route 58 just after noon on Tuesday.
The crash happened on Route 58 westbound just before the downtown exit. The Chevrolet Impala left the roadway, drove through a guardrail and overturned, according to a city press release.
The adult male driver, the sole occupant, required extrication by Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel. He was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the release.
A portion of the roadway was briefly closed. The cause remains under investigation, according to the release.
