Messy fun at city libraries

Kids will have the opportunity to get messy to their hearts’ content at Suffolk libraries next week.

“Leave the mess to us,” said Angie Sumner, Suffolk Public Library marketing and community relations coordinator.

On Sept. 1, toddlers are invited to attend either the Morgan Memorial or North Suffolk library for the Totally Untidy Toddlers event. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

During the program, students will interact with chocolate pudding, shaving cream, bubble foam and gooey sand. The materials will be used to make fake mud.

Totally Untidy Toddlers promises to be very messy, but there is a method to the madness. The purpose of the event is to engage students in sensory play.

“Kids learn so much about the world through their sense of touch and exploring,” said Melissa Kariger, early childhood services supervisor at Suffolk Public Library. “So this is a fun way to do that.”

Students are encouraged to wear old clothes, because they are in for a messy yet engaging treat.

There will also be non-messy stations available.

“This is an opportunity to get messy and have fun,” Kariger said.
