Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls’ volleyball team last week won in the Bronze division in Richmond Showcase.
The Lady Saints went up to Richmond to participate in a showcase that mostly involved public schools. On Friday and Saturday combined, the Lady Saints went 2-2. NSA played teams such as Atlee, Princess Anne, First Colonial and Forest Park.
“This tournament hosts all the big public schools,” coach Robyn Ross said. “They didn’t give up. I am proud of them.”
In the Bronze championship match against Forest Park, the Lady Saints were down 9-19 in the second set before coming back and winning and sweeping the game.
“Our tallest player is 5-foot-7-inches,” Ross said. “We were playing teams whose shortest player was taller than our tallest player. I like that our girls fought. We finished better than we did last year.”
NSA plays at Western Branch at 6 p.m. Sept. 7.
