A 16-year-old is charged with malicious wounding after allegedly stabbing a younger teen in Carrollton over the holiday weekend.

According to a press release from the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to the 14000 block of Bartlett Circle on Monday. When the deputy arrived, an off-duty Virginia State Police trooper was treating a stab wound to the leg of a 15-year-old male.

The investigation revealed the two were playing basketball when an altercation took place. The 16-year-old went home and returned with two kitchen knives. A second altercation took place, and the 16-year-old stabbed the 15-year-old, according to the press release.

The younger teen was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center, and the suspect was charged with malicious wounding and transported to Chesapeake Juvenile Services pending a custody hearing by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Virginia State Police Trooper J. Vance, who lives nearby, assisted the victim after somebody knocked on his door and asked for help. Vance responded with his department-issued trauma kit and applied a tourniquet, according to a press release from state police Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

“The Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the local VSP Trooper who rendered aid,” according to the release from the sheriff’s office. “His quick actions in providing first aid kept the injury sustained by the minor from being worse than it was.”
