Thousands are expected at the 23rd annual Isle of Wight County Fair this weekend.

The fair — this year’s theme is “Country Nights, Carnival Lights” — will take place Sept. 15-18 at the Joel C. Bradshaw Fairgrounds in Windsor. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend over the course of four days, according to Lauren Wood, fair and events coordinator for Isle of Wight County Parks and Recreation.

Wood said the event attracts residents from all over Hampton Roads and even as far as North Carolina.

“They love it and want it back every year,” Wood said.

There are more than 115 commercial, non-profit, political and art vendors expected, according to Wood.

The fair will also feature musical performances from local acts, an array of unique competitions and a pageant.

Wood said the bull-riding rodeo typically “draws the most crowds.”

On Wednesday, there will be a seafood fest from 4 to 9 p.m. Tickets, which are limited in supply, will be $30 per person in advance and $35 at the gate.

The next night will be a carnival from 5 to 10 p.m. Vehicles pay a flat $40 admission fee granting all-you-can-ride wristbands to all attendants. However, there is a limit to eight people per vehicle. Single entry admission tickets are priced at $10 for guests ages 6 and above.

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, it will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are free for children ages 5 and under. For ages 6 through 12, tickets are $5 and ages 13 and older get in for $10.

Senior citizens, ages 55 and up, and elementary school students only pay a $1 entry fee between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Also, on Sunday, military servicemen and women pay $5.

There are two and three-day passes available on the county website at $18 and $26 respectively.
