Hurley Butler Jr.

Hurley Butler Jr., 83, entered into eternal slumber on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at his residence. He was born on April 9, 1933, to the late Annie Dowdy Butler and John Dempsey Butler in Suffolk.

Hurley attended East Suffolk High School and retired from the City of Suffolk after 33 years of dedicated service. He later retired from Holley’s Transit Services.

At an early age, Hurley joined St. Paul Baptist Church.

Hurley was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Butler; son, Raliegh Butler; two brothers, Tommie Butler and Melvin Butler.

Left behind to celebrate Hurley’s memory are his sons, Huley Butler (Paulette), Clyde Butler, Larry Butler, Timothy Stephenson (Paula), Michael Butler, Bobby Stephenson, and Rodney Eure; daughters, Wanda Britt (William), Clara Weaver (Albert), Jennette Holt (Stanley), Paulette Wiggins (Harvey), Annette Butler, Sandra Butler (Carter), and Mary Holliman (Isaac); and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Butler’s visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m., and the family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive guests at 108 Shepard St. at all other times. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries Church.
