Nansemond River High School’s field hockey team continues to roll after a 9-0 win against Bethel High School on Monday evening.

The Lady Warriors hosted the Bethel Lady Bruins in a Conference 10 field hockey game and controlled the tempo from the start. Nansemond River’s last game was a week ago, but the Lady Warriors were able to come out strong even after a week of no play.

“It’s a good win for us, and it does help us boost our confidence,” the Lady Warriors’ Ashlyn Rogers said. “Knowing that we played really well together was really encouraging. We tried new things that game that we can use for the future.”

“This was a good game for us,” senior co-captain Mackenzie Roach said. “We know we are going to have to keep playing great hockey in order to win future games.”

Rogers, in particular, had a great game for the Lady Warriors as she led the way with a hat trick.

“It was definitely a good game for me,” Rogers said. “I had a lot of opportunities to shoot, and I just wanted to capitalize on them.”

Not only did Rogers have a big game, but also the Lady Warriors had three other players who scored two goals in the game. The win showed how explosive they can be even without getting goals from players such as Ariana Samuel.

“We did great scoring, but we also know there’s areas we can improve,” Samuel said. “We can improve on our passing, but it was nice to get this win.”

Lady Warriors are now 1-0 in Conference 10 play. The next conference game for the Lady Warriors will be at home against Warwick High School at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.
