Voters need debates to decide

To the Editor:

It is interesting that City Council has had nothing controversial on the agenda for the past six weeks. Are there no issues that warrant lively discussion by council and, perhaps, differing opinions? We are fairly boring compared to the rest of Hampton Roads!

It is unfortunate that the Chamber of Commerce forum has been canceled. It is more unfortunate that voters do not have an opportunity to hear the candidates in a debate of the issues. It would be informative if some entity would sponsor a debate for mayoral candidates and for others in individual districts for council. As it is, voters may go with the status quo due to a lack of information on the alternatives. And so it goes.

We need lively discussions among the candidates to be fully informed voters. Too bad that is not a priority.
