The Lady Warriors field hockey season came to an end Wednesday night, as they lost 3-1 to Menchville High School in the semifinals of the Conference 10 tournament at Gloucester High School.

When the two teams met during the regular season, the Lady Monarchs took that win as well. In the quarterfinals Tuesday evening, Nansemond River defeated Hampton High School 10-0.

At halftime, Nansemond River led 1-0. Despite the loss, the Lady Warriors felt it was competitive game for not only themselves but also the fans who had a chance to watch the match as well.

“Our effort was there,” the Lady Warriors’ Ashlyn Rogers said. “Everyone played their best and as hard as they could. We made solid passes. Unfortunately, it didn’t end up in our favor.”

“We played really well in the conference tournament,” senior Mackenzie Roach said. “It was a great field hockey to play and for other people to watch.”

The Lady Warriors will be losing five seniors this year but plan to return contributors such as Rogers, Sarah Rhiel and Allison Fischer. They finished the season with a 12-5 record.

“The girls played hard,” Lady Warriors coach Ali Dize said. “I couldnt have asked any more of them. Everyone fought hard all season, and my seniors led well. For the returning players, they can learn from these experiences, and we come back stronger next year.”

“It was a good season as the team did great things,” Rogers said. “I’m proud of our accomplishments, but there is always room for improvement and we’re going to continue to work hard and be better.”
