A City Council candidate is back in the race after temporarily suspending his campaign.

Ben Fitzgerald III had suspended campaign activities earlier this month. He notified the Suffolk Voter Registrar this week that he has resumed his campaign for the Nansemond Borough seat, where Lue Ward, the incumbent, also is running.

Fitzgerald said this week that his grandfather is in hospice care in central Virginia, and he was spending a lot of time driving back and forth to be with him. But his grandfather has now stabilized, so Fitzgerald feels he is able to resume his campaign.

“I’m committed to working toward a better Suffolk for us all,” he said.
