Suffolk police are investigating skeletal remains found at a cemetery on Tuesday.

The remains, possibly human, were not in a vault, according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The remains were reported at 2:54 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery in the 8300 block of Crittenden Road.

Construction at the cemetery has been taking place to fix erosion at the site. However, construction has ceased to allow the police to conduct their investigation, Klink said.

Graves in the cemetery date back as far as a century or more, Klink added.
