The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball team had three players make all-state this year.
The Lady Saints volleyball team finished as state runner-ups in the VISAA Division II. After a surging state tournament run which included 3-0 victories over their first two opponents, they advanced to the state championship, where they took on Middleburg Academy and lost 3-1.
Though the Lady Saints preferred a state championship, a runner-up position isn’t exactly something to frown upon. During the regular season, they won the TCIS and were led by Livi Bono, Logan Harrell, and Nicole Wright, who were the three players honored with all-state recognition.
Bono was the TCIS Player of the Year and surpassed 1,000 career kills this year, becoming the second player in NSA history to do so.
Harrell was named first team All-TCIS this year and became NSA’s all-time leader in digs.
Bono and Harrell were selected to first team all-state. Nicole Wright was named to the second team All-TCIS and also received second team all-state honors.
“They are very deserving of these honors,” Lady Saints coach Robyn Ross said. “It is a great testament to their hard work and dedication to this sport and the NSA program. It is a great sendoff for them to be recognized at the state level, and I am really proud of them all.”
The trio from NSA was a part of the most successful class of seniors to come through the volleyball program. All three were a part of the two volleyball state championship teams.
“Getting to watch them grow into the women they are today is a privilege I thank God for daily,” Ross said. “It gets harder every year to say goodbye to these girls I love so much. Knowing that I will get to watch them go into the world and do amazing things makes it easier.”
