A Griswold Christmas?

Everybody loves Christmas lights — perhaps none more so than the power company.
The folks at Cross Realty are just like the rest of us in that regard, but they have taken that love for great spreads of outdoor Christmas decorations to a new level with their second annual Christmas lights contest.
Lee Cross said this week that he got the idea for the contest last year after noting how much his three daughters enjoyed looking at the creative ways folks had festooned their homes with gaily colored lights, wreaths and other decorations.
The contest turned out to be a hit, and this year Cross Realty is hoping for even more engagement. If your family harbors a Clark Griswold, this could be his (or her) chance for fame — and a little help with that holiday electric bill.
There are two different awards: one for the photo with the most Facebook “likes,” and a judges’ choice prize. The home with the most likes by Jan. 2 will receive $250 toward their power bill. The judges — Cross’s daughters, of course — will choose the home that receives the judges’ choice award, a $150 prize toward their power bill.
Homes in Suffolk, Isle of Wight County and Southampton County are eligible. The contest is co-sponsored by the Suffolk News-Herald.
People can enter by sending a photo of their Christmas light display via private message on the Facebook page, facebook.com/CrossRealty. The photo will be posted on the Cross Realty Facebook page. Names, addresses and contact information are required with entry, so that the judges can judge and winners can be contacted, but that information will not be displayed on the Facebook page.
So string up those lights, put out the inflatables, hang the wreaths and plop a big ol’ Santa on the roof, near the chimney — and then snap a photo. Let’s just hope cousin Eddie doesn’t show up in his beat-up RV.
