Lakeland raked in some big awards when the All-Conference team results were announced this week.

Coach Kevin Knight was named Coach of the Year, and six players earned All-Conference honors on the heels of the Cavs’ most successful season in program history.

LHS had three players make the first team. Senior running back Damontra Milteer and senior offensive lineman Garrett Whitley were named to the first team offense.

Milteer rushed for more than 2,000 yards for Lakeland this year, breaking the school record. He was also named the first-team running back and Player of The Year in All-Conference 27 team.

Whitley was named to the first team All-Conference 27 team as well.

“I’m grateful for the conference and regional recognition,” Whitley said of his honor. “My 10th and 11th-grade year, no one hardly new me. Coach Knight, Coach Richardson and Coach Scott were my motivators this season, saying that I needed to make a statement.”

Junior linebacker DeAndre Faulk was named to the first team All-Region defense. He also earned first team honors for the All-Conference 27 team.

Chase Bell, Jayree Hardy and Tariq Rawlings rounded out the All-Region second team for the Cavs.

Knight received his second Coach of the Year honor. The Cavs’ coach helped his team to a 7-6 record and a third seed in the 3A East playoffs, coaching them to a regional championship for the first time in school history.

“I’m thankful for everybody,” Knight said about his award. “Believe me when I say it’s not just me. I have a great coaching staff, and I have kids that bust their butts week in and week out. All I did was push those guys and motivate those guys to believe in themselves. All those guys deserve those honors. I’m proud of them.”

Of those who made the All-Region team, three will be returning, along with the rest who were honored for All-Conference teams.

“All the guys who are coming back next year are ready for the offseason,” Knight said. “I’m looking forward to a great offseason. The guys have seen their accomplishments and what they can do, and we have a great group coming back.”
